MASERATI KUBANG PICTURES AUTO SHOW CAR

We covered Maserati's new sport luxury SUV prior to the announcement at IAA in Frankfurt earlier this week, but there's now a bit more info plus a lot more pics and detail available.

Maserati showed a Giugiaro-styled SUV named the Kubang (after a Javan wind) in Detroit in 2003 in response to the then new Porsche Cayenne.

They've kept the name, and the basis of the vehicles will be the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but the engine, suspension, steering and brakes will be Maserati and the Jeep styling makeover has been conducted under the eye of Maserati's Lorenzo Ramaciotti.

The car will also come with a choice of several new Maserati engines designed by ex-Ferrari F1 engine designer Paolo Martinelli, and will be produced in Maranello by Ferrari.

The transmission will be an AT eight-speed auto and the suspension, brakes and steering components will also be developed in Modena by the Maserati Product Development Department.
The Kubang is still expected to be built in Detroit as per the article earlier in the week.

Interestingly, the original Kubang was to be powered by a Chrysler Hemi V8. Giugaro did a nice job IMHO. That's it below. (source)

"It's really important for Boshoku and all suppliers not to rely on only Toyota," said Satoru Takada, a Tokyo-based auto analyst at research firm Toward the Infinite World Inc. "This shouldn't result in a decrease in the sales volume to Toyota but the company needs to diverse its customer base."

"Competition is very tough in Asia and other regions as well, but we are continuously approaching possible buyers," Toyoda said.

Toyota Boshoku aims to limit its profit drop to 4.1 percent in the fiscal year ending March 31, targeting net income of 11 billion yen ($143 million).

The seat maker expects to profit from its European business by next fiscal year, Toyoda said.

Separately, Toyoda said the parts maker expects a boost in sales thanks to Japanese government subsidies and tax breaks for purchases of fuel-efficient cars.

Toyoda Boshoku ranks No. 16 on the Automotive News list of the top 100 global suppliers with estimated worldwide sales to automakers of $10.40 billion during its 2010 fiscal year.

"Harganya akan sangat kompetitif bila dibanding mobil Subaru yang sekarang kita bawa dari Jepang. Mobil ini akan masuk C-segmen seperti Honda CR-V, untuk harga kita lihat pas peluncuran, karena akan sangat tergantung pada nilai tukar yen," urainya.

Seperti diketahui, Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI) yang merupakan prinsipal Subaru di Jepang beberapa hari lalu mengumumkan telah menandatangani nota kesepahaman (MOU) untuk mulai memproduksi mobil di Malaysia dengan Grup Tan Chong.

Dalam kontrak tersebut, FHI dan TC Subaru Sdn. Bhd yang merupakan distributor kendaraan Subaru di Malaysia sepakat untuk memulai produksi mobil Subaru pada Oktober 2012 di fasilitas produksi yang ada di Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn. Bhd (TCMA) dengan kapasitas produksi 5.000 unit per tahun.

Dan mobil yang akan diproduksi adalah Subaru XV. Dengan dirakit di Malaysia dan dibawa masuk dalam bentuk CKD ke Indonesia, diperkirakan harga Subaru XV tidak akan semahal bila diboyong dari Jepang sebab ada perjanjian perdagangan bebas diantara negara0negara di Asean.

Untuk mesinnya, Subaru XV menurut Glenn akan mengusung mesin 2.0 bertransmisi otomatis. Selain itu, seperti halnya mobil Subaru lain, mobil ini juga akan mengusung sistem penggerak semua roda alias All Wheel Drive.

"Kalau untuk nasional targetnya 120 mobil untuk semester I tahun 2011," tambah Glenn.

Untuk khalayak Surabaya, Subaru sendiri akan memperkenalkan sedikitnya 4 mobil andalannya yakni Impreza, Exiga, Forester, Legacy dan Outback. Untuk sedan Impreza akan dibanderol dengan harga Rp 348 - Rp 853 juta, untuk Exiga yang masuk ranah mobil MPV dibanderol dengan harga Rp 412 - Rp 540 juta.

Untuk SUV Forester dibanderol dengan harga Rp 440 - Rp 532 juta, sedan Legacy dibanderol Rp 821 juta dan untuk high MPV seperti Outback dibanderol dengan harga Rp 731 - Rp 813 juta.

JEEP Grand Cherokee Latest Official Marketed in Indonesi

Jakarta, March 17, 2011 - PT Garansindo Inter Global (Chrysler Indonesia) launched the All New Jeep Grand Cherokee at Senayan City, South Jakarta, today.
